The Latest in High-tech and Convenient Products
Bayer Breeze2
The new Bayer Breeze2 blood glucose monitor is an updated version of the
original Breeze meter, featuring shorter testing times and easier
functionality. Using code-free technology, the monitor automatically sets the
correct code any time a Bayer test strip is inserted. The Breeze2 also
requires a small blood sample (1 µL) and includes a 10-test disc system,
allowing users to test 10 times without handling individual strips. An
automatic underfill detection ensures enough blood to perform each test
successfully. Accurate blood glucose test results are displayed within 5
seconds. The monitor also stores up to 420 test results for better diabetes
management. A large readable display and single-function buttons offer ease of
use to people with limited dexterity or vision. Bayer HealthCare, 555 White
Plains Rd., Tarrytown, N.Y. 10591. 800-348-8100.

Animas 2020 Insulin Pump
The new Animas 2020 insulin pump offers people with diabetes an improved
way to manage their diabetes and insulin dosage. Featuring a flat-panel color
screen and compact design, the Animas 2020 allows users to optimize an
individual dosing regimen by choosing their own insulin-to-carb ratios,
insulin sensitivity factors, and blood glucose targets. A small basal rate of
0.025 U/hr encourages precise pumping, with no dilution necessary. The pump
can be programmed to send out a warning when units drop below a certain
number, based on preselected increments. Pump-wearers may customize the names
of four basal programs to match desired insulin levels for various lifestyle
and activity situations, such as "weekend,"
"exercise," or "vacation." Up to 500 nutritional
values from favorite foods can be stored in the Animas 2020 for easy carb
counting. Pump information can be downloaded to the user's PC with the
ezManager software to view blood glucose and carb patterns. The Animas 2020 is
waterproof at 12 ft for up to 24 hours. Available in blue, black, or silver.
