TALK BACK: GAUGING THE ROSIGLITAZONE RESPONSE

A meta-analysis recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine spurred headlines when it linked the drug rosiglitazone (Avandia, GlaxoSmithKline) to an excessive risk of heart attacks.1

Some in the diabetes community contend that the rosiglitazone heart risk is overblown, and that GlaxoSmithKline hasn't had a chance to adequately defend itself against the political furor surrounding the drug—an uproar that may threaten its future distribution.

What do you think? Has the media and political response to the rosiglitazone meta-analysis been appropriate?
