TALK BACK: WHAT'S MOST SISYPHEAN ABOUT PATIENT CARE?

While improvements in the treatment of diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease are reported regularly, sometimes it seems the battle against disease and infirmity will never be won—recalling the legendary Sisyphus, condemned to eternally roll that heavy rock up the hill.

Therapeutic gains are constantly balanced against statistics that indicate rising rates of these diseases.

Yes, health professionals continually innovate, finding new ways to solve old problems. But they often work in isolation, so comparing notes with peers is difficult. In addition, patient contact is limited, causing some physicians to question the extent of their influence.

What is the biggest challenge you face in the care of people with diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease?
